Why Donate Blood?
It is a known fact that there is always more demand than supply for blood to be used in emergency cases such as accidents, major surgeries and certain other medical conditions. It is a myth that there is more demand only for rare blood groups. However, the fact is that people who need blood are just like us and from amongst us, so there is equally more demand for common as it is for rare blood groups. Donated blood is used for treatment of various grave diseases including cancer, hemophilia, and other blood disorders. Donated blood can be used for immediate transfusion or can be stored for future usage. Blood can be stored as whole blood or can be fractioned into its components. Plasma component of blood can used to save life of burnt patients.

Blood donation is beneficial for donors as well. Blood donation stimulates bone marrow to produce more new cells. In patients who are prone to iron overload, blood donation helps in checking the level of accumulated iron below toxic quantities.

Donated blood can be used in various situations such as:

The plasma fraction of donated blood can be used help revive burnt patients

Blood donation will not reduce your blood level to very low. Instead, the donated volume of blood can be regained within after 24-48 hours of donation and the red blood count is adjusted in around 56 days. Also, blood donors will not contract any disease if sterile conditions are used to withdraw blood.
